Controller – Maintenance Services

Reporting directly to the SVP/Chief Financial Officer for BrightView’s Maintenance Services division, and with shared reporting responsibilities to BrightView’s Corporate Controller, the Controller – Maintenance Services is an important newly created leadership role responsible for directing and overseeing all accounting and financial reporting processes and controls for the Maintenance Services division. With annual revenues of approximately $1.7 billion, Maintenance Services is BrightView’s largest operating division, delivering a full suite of commercial landscaping services to a wide range of customers including Fortune 500 corporate campuses and commercial properties, HOAs, public parks, leading international hotels and resorts, airport authorities, municipalities, hospitals and other healthcare facilities, educational institutions, restaurants and retail, and golf courses among others.

Based in the Company’s corporate headquarters in greater Philadelphia, the Controller – Maintenance Services will have direct responsibility for a team of two to three senior accountants, and oversight responsibility for the network of Market Controllers across all the division’s geographic regions and operating locations. Additionally, the individual will work closely to support BrightView’s Corporate Controllership and Financial, Planning & Analysis teams.

Technically adept and demonstrably proficient in current US GAAP reporting requirements, the successful individual will be a visible leader of people, results oriented, with a resolute focus on quality and progressive improvement. Select responsibilities and leadership functions of the role include:

 Lead and direct a team of two to three senior accountants, and oversee all Market Controller and branch / field-based financial accounting and reporting roles and responsibilities across all Maintenance Services, to drive consistency in process, accuracy in execution, and enable an enhanced reporting and control environment. Responsible for review and approval of monthly general ledger finalization for the Maintenance Services division, as well as in-month and month-end reviews and approvals of key balance sheet accounts including but not limited to accounts receivable balances, work-in-process accounts, accruals and deferrals, among others. Maintain and enforce a strong SOX compliant internal control environment across all Maintenance Services, to align with the enterprise in a complex and evolving environment. Provide critical leadership in the form of oversight, training, and coaching for direct staff and across all market and branch / field-based financial accounting and reporting teams. Enforce and maintain comprehensive accounting policy to improve clarity and consistency. Perform process re-engineering to align with the enterprise, further enhance the quality of financial reporting, and reduce the timing, complexity of the financial close.

Qualifications/Demonstrated Attributes:

 Undergraduate degree in Accounting required. CPA required, with 7+ years of progressive experience, including recent ‘Big 4’ or similar public accounting and corporate experience, with heavy exposure to controllership and financial reporting. An excellent knowledge of current US GAAP. Excellent leadership, critical thinking, communication and team building skills required. Strategic thinker with demonstrated strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills and sound judgment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, and effectively manage others through influence. Self-starter, confident in his/her abilities, self-motivated and able to work effectively with little supervision. Results-oriented leader who can make a difference; an individual who has excellent listening skills, critical thinking, takes initiative, accepts accountability and has a “can do” attitude with a sense of urgency. Ability to effectively problem solve, being creative and flexible in thought attitude, and agility to adapt to new situations in a rapidly changing, dynamic environment. A strong value system and unquestioned integrity.
